ABOUT ALEXA
I have fifteen years of experience working with social justice organizations and movement groups to design and conduct research, develop and analyze public policy and bring affected communities into decision-making processes.
I’ve built my career on the principle that all people—particularly those who have been historically excluded—should participate in decisions that affect their lives. Most recently I spent ten years as the Director of Research and Policy at the Community Development Project at the Urban Justice Center (now called TakeRoot Justice); prior to that, I was the Research and Policy Coordinator at Community Voices Heard. I have managed numerous projects in partnership with nonprofit organizations, philanthropic institutions and government officials, resulting in the publication of more than 70 research reports, the passage of city, state and federal legislation, the development of groundbreaking municipal programs and the creation of the Research for Organizing Toolkit.
I have a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and African American Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
